With a very small production of between 150 – 200 cases per year (depending on yields) Bob’s elegant touch is evident from the first taste. “Dos Lagos” means “two lakes” in Spanish, and irrigation for the vineyards comes from our 2 spring fed lakes. Dos Lagos Vineyards are at an altitude of 1,650 ft, and gently south sloping vineyards planted in thin topsoil and volcanic “Tuff “ series geology causes our vines to struggle, and to produce small, yet intensely flavorful, berries. Our Vineyard Manager Hector Lopez and his crew nurture the very best from our vines, and our farming practices must be very natural and sustainable, given the close proximity of the vines to our lakes. The inky-dark coloration hints at the intensity of the wine, yet the strong tannins are rounded and approachable, in part to our unique terroir, and in part to the immense talents of Hector Lopez, and the masterful Bob Foley.
Our vineyard estate offers a refuge for the abundant wildlife in the area, and the deer fencing around the vineyards was created in a way that left pathways to the lakes for the animals. Nesting pairs of Canadian Geese, Mallards, Mergansers, and Buffleheads are seen throughout the winter, while bobcats, deer, bear, and wild turkeys are also frequent visitors during the summer months. Red tailed hawks swirl overhead as the vines create their magic, and our harvest time is a festival of enjoyment as we bring in the fruit – generally late in the season, and just prior to the autumn rains! Dos Lagos Vineyards are a magical place to visit, and together we create some of the best Cabernet Sauvignon in Napa Valley!
